Scholarship Opportunities Available

Greetings,

We hope this letter finds you all in good health and spirits.

We’re writing to you on behalf of the United States Soo Bahk Do Moo Duk Kwan Foundation which is a charitable 501c(3) tax exempt entity. The Foundation’s mission is the educational promotion of the Soo Bahk Do Moo Duk Kwan Martial Art system, as well as acquiring the funding through grants and donations needed to do this. Additionally, our plans include delivering our great Martial Art to lower income and at risk youth as well as elderly practitioners.

Our Mission Statement… To educate the general public about and to encourage the participation in the practice of the ancient Martial Art form known as Soo Bahk Do as taught by the United States Soo Bahk Do Moo Duk Kwan Federation, Inc. by obtaining grants, donations and other revenue sources that fund, through scholarships and grants, or directly conduct community programs to promote the Moo Do philosophy of avoiding conflict toward achieving harmony among all people.

As we all know, Soo Bahk Do Moo Duk Kwan has many valuable attributes that benefit both individuals and society as a whole. However, we need visibility to properly pass on these valuable traits to the public. Through the Foundation, we hope to increase public awareness of and participation in our Art.

We also look to give back to the Federation and provide opportunities for individuals to attend Federation events who otherwise may not have had a chance. To that end, the Foundation would like to begin our support this year by offering Scholarships to attend the 2011 TAC Seminars hosted at the Regional level as well as TAC Seminars hosted at the National Festival in San Diego, CA. These Scholarships will be earned by writing and submitting an essay.

Scholarship Submission Details
Interested members should include their name, age, rank, instructor, Region, e-mail address, phone number, and National or Regional TAC Seminar that they would like to attend on the title page. The essay question is as follows:

“How do you benefit from the Moo Duk Kwan?”

The essay should be no longer than one typed page. Candidates should submit their essay to their instructor once completed. Instructors will submit essays to their Regional Examiner who will send them to the Foundation Board of Directors for review and final selection. All essays are due by May 20th, 2011. Scholarship winners will be notified by June 1st, 2011.

Opportunities to Contribute
In order to receive funding and grants to help the growth and promotion of Soo Bahk Do Moo Duk Kwan, the Foundation needs your help. We would like to formalize and create programs to better structure and present the values of the Moo Duk Kwan to the general public. These programs will be presented to grant writers and corporations to help acquire the funds we need to promote our Martial Art, and make it more visible in our local communities.

Many of you have already implemented these types of programs in your Do Jang, and we are asking you to assist us in developing these ideas further on a national level so all interested studio owners can offer these programs as well.

By presenting an organized, structured program we will accumulate data and results as proof to corporations interested in supporting our Art, that their funding support is making a difference. Please contact the 501c(3) Foundation Board of Directors (board@soobahkdofoundation.org) for more information on how you can be part of this important project.

Should you wish to support the Foundation’s initiatives by making a donation and initially increasing the number of TAC Seminar Scholarship opportunities that we can offer, please visit soobahkdofoundation.org to make your donation today. We are in the process of seeking tax exempt approval that would permit contributions to be tax deductible and we will notify you upon our receipt of the IRS final determination.

We thank you for your support and look forward to the great opportunities that will be offered by this Foundation.

Yours in the Moo Duk Kwan,
Board of Directors, U.S. Soo Bahk Do Moo Duk Kwan Foundation
